In this section you'll find an overview of our small village in Cabo Pulmo National Park, which includes a list of the most common questions when traveling to Pulmo, the guidelines to the houses and valuable information to plan your trip!
Cabo Pulmo is a remote town located between Los Cabos and La Paz, due to its location, access to some services and facilities can be challenging. Make sure you come prepared with anything you might need as you won't find the following services:
There are a couple of souvenir shops in town that have reef friendly sunscreen for sale, besides their locally made art crafts.
We also have a mini farmers market every Friday; Oscar, Henry and more local people have organic veggies, honey, chicken, pies and cookies for sale. They are located a little bit up the road in "Calle Loma Vista" and they set up their stand from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
- These units are located in 'The village of Cabo Pulmo', a small compound with a number of units owned by different individuals, these rentals are not operated by Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort/Dive Center.
- The water in the house is treated but it can taste like chlorine, we recommend bringing your own drinking water. You might experience a shortage of water from time to time; this happens when there is some maintenance taking place in the village.
Please take care of the house and everything provided. Be aware of the place you are travelling to and help us by observing the following guidelines:
Other things to note: Pulmo is about relaxing, connecting with friends and nature.
This is not a "Cabo party" town. That being said, you might experience some trip celebrations from groups of divers and some local parties, like "birthdays, posadas (in December), or the national park anniversary", bring ear plugs just in case.
Feel free to ask any other!
The easiest way is by renting a car as there is no public transportation all the way to Pulmo. If traveling from Cabo, take Hwy 1 North to La Ribera, as you get into La Ribera, you’ll see an OXXO, turn right and follow the road all the way to Cabo Pulmo, note that the last six miles aren’t paved. You don't need to rent a 4x4 vehicle, however a high clearance car will give you more peace of mind. Slow down and enjoy the view!
You can also get private transportation all the way to Pulmo, the driver usually picks you up at the airport and takes you to the closest supermarket so you can do your grocery shopping. While we don't set up this service, we can give you the driver's contact information.
Another option includes travelling by bus for most of your trip, but you will have to get a taxi for the last part. If coming from the airport in Cabo, go to the "Ruta del desierto" bus stop and catch the bus to Santa Anita, there you can catch the bus to Los Barriles and once in Barriles you will have to get private transportation to Cabo Pumo. If coming from La Paz, catch the bus to Los Barriles and get private transportation to Cabo Pulmo. Be aware, the bus to Los Barriles runs every 2 hours, either way. The schedule depends on demand, go to google and look for the schedule at the Transportes Aguila Website but we recommend calling them for more accurate information.
There are 2 small "tiendas" where you can get some very basic items such as drinking water, wine, beer and some snacks. For a large and fresh variety of products do your grocery shopping in any big supermarket in Cabo or La Paz.
Most restaurants only take cash, some dive shops take credit cards with an extra fee. Is better to bring cash and in pesos. There is only one USD ATM in Pulmo, but take some precautions, as it might not have cash all the time. Exchange rates are usually different from place to place.
From the most popular activities like SCUBA diving and snorkeling, you will also have access to a large trail system, covering the beach, mountains and arroyo. Some mountain bikes are available for rent in town too.
Stop by the visitor's center and check the monthly agenda, they usually have workshops related to the park, movie nights, festivals and other activities.
Yes, there are 7 restaurants with different working hours. They are all casual and for the most part they close by 9.
From late October to late March, we have prevalent north wind, December to February are the windiest months, things slow down, and restaurants fold up on very windy days. Include warm clothes if traveling during these months. From April to June we have calmer conditions, except for occasional south winds. Temperature goes from low 60's to high 80's. Hurricane Season officially begins in May and extends to early November; however, August and September are the hottest and most humid months and is when we usually have tropical storms or hurricane, but the water visibility and temperature are just right. Temperature ranges from low 80's at night to high 90's during the day.
The water in the house is treated but it can taste like chlorine, we recommend bringing your own drinking water.
